WOMEN AROUND THE ALDERMASTON BASE
WELFARE BEFORE WARHEADS
MAY 9th 12 noon

Dear friends
In January, Aldermaston Women's Peace Camp launched their Welfare Before Warheads pilot survey, asking a wide selection of women from all over Britain about their reactions to the following proposal: "In May 1998, one year after the election of a Labour government, we propose that women make the link between poverty and the waste of resources on nuclear weapons, by surrounding the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, near Reading to:

  • state the real security needs of people in this country: healthcare, education, real jobs and social security provision
  • show solidarity amongst women struggling for equality, justice and a future
  • protest at the resources being spent on Trident nuclear weapons
  • express our opposition to threats of mass destruction of other communities
  • cover the fence with messages and reminders of what we really want our money to be spent on"

On the basis of the positive survey results it was agreed at the February Aldermaston Camp that this event should go ahead on SATURDAY 9TH MAY, with a programme of speakers and activities.
SPREAD THE WORD - Please forward this to your e-mailing contacts. If you can help to
prepare for this event in any other way, we'd love to hear from you.
Can we do it? -
YES!!
