Comments due: Draft copy of the First Periodic Report of the NZ Government on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child


Closing date - 15 July 2000

The Draft copy of the First Periodic Report of the NZ Government on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is now available. The deadline for public comment on the Draft is 15 July 2000. The final report will be sent to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in November 2000.

To comment on the Draft, you will need the following documents:

1) The Draft First Periodic Report - this is a somewhat weighty tome (490KB, 124 pages in Word) and is available from:

    i) the Ministry of Youth Affairs website - in PDF format (although it doesn�t seem to want to print once you have downloaded it) at http://www.youthaffairs.govt.nz/pol/ppubs_f.htm

    ii) or PMA - we can email it to you as a Word attachment, or as text. Please specify which you prefer;

    iii) or you can get a paper copy from The Ministry of Youth Affairs, PO Box 10-300, Wellington. Tel (04) 471 2158, fax (04) 471 2233, [email protected]

2) A Guide to Commenting on the Draft (a mere 6 pages) which is currently available from:
    i) PMA - we can email it to you as a Word attachment, or as text (least preferable option as the Guide is formatted) - Please specify which you prefer;

    ii) or you can get a paper copy from The Ministry of Youth Affairs, PO Box 10-300, Wellington. Tel (04) 471 2158, fax (04) 471 2233, [email protected]

3) The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which is available from: Note - Information kits on the Draft First Periodic Report will be available later this week from the Ministry of Youth Affairs.
