Gun Control - extension on submissions 19 September 1999 Further to our alert of 26 August, we have received the following message from Carol Ann Bradford saying that the deadline has been extended to 1 October. Hi I just found out the deadline for submissions on the Firearms Amendment Bill (no 2) has been extended to October 1. So if you really wanted to put one in, but ran out of time, now you can still manage one. Even a brief one page show of concern is valuable. You could mention how NZ lags behind countries such as Australia, Canada, South Africa and the UK, lacking a coordinated gun control system. Stress that registration of individual guns is very important, but that AAB#2 addresses only this, of all the major recommendations of the 1997 Thorp Report. An independent authority to handle the administrative details of licensing and registering is vital, for example. Add items related to your special area of concern. Remember you need to send 25 copies of your submission to Jayne Wallis, Clerk of the Justice and Law Reform Select Committee, Parliament House, Wellington - now by October 1st. And please send us a copy of your submission. Thank you! Carol Ann Bradford, [email protected] Link to further alerts on gun control.
