~While the bombing continues, candle lit vigil - bring a candle !

Saturday, 17 April

~Vigil at the US embassy, 12 noon. This is part of the International Day of Action to end the NATO bombing, protests are held in over 200 cities around the world. There are speakers, and a period of silence, candles and flowers.

Thursday, 15 April

~Candlelit vigil, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at the Cenotaph (cnr Bowen St and Lambton Quay) We remember all the victims of the tragedy in Yugoslavia.

30 March to 9 April

~Every day, between 12 noon and 1pm, vigils are held at the US embassy. Candles are lit to remember all the victims of war in Yugoslavia, in a quiet, peaceful protest.

~ people of Yugoslavian descent living in Wellington vigil outside the NZ parliament, the US and German Embassies and the British High Commission.

29 March

~ Peace Movement Aotearoa, Magdalena Aotearoa and the International Women's Performance Festival join together with people of Yugoslavian descent living in Wellington to vigil outside the US Embassy. Kathy Randels, US performance artist, joins with women from Italy and Yugoslavia to denounce NATO's airstrikes. Click here for Kathy's speech, and here for photographs.

The crowd of more than 100 stand in silence for fifteen minutes, holding candles and flowers.

Women in Black, comprising around 70 women representing more than 10 countries move to face the embassy through the gates and sing 'I am a witness to your war crimes' - our message to all governments guilty of atrocities and those who support them. While Women in Black sang, the men stood in the background, draped in black cloth, in silent support. Click here for photographs of Women in Black.

~ people of Yugoslavian descent living in Wellington vigil outside the NZ parliament, the US and German Embassies and the British High Commission.

~ women from Peace Movement Aotearoa, Magdalena Aotearoa, the International Women's Performance Festival and Women's International League for Peace and Freedom vigil on forecourt of Te Papa (national museum) and hand out information condemning the NATO bombing and the NZ government's support for it.

25 March

~ people of Yugoslavian descent living in Wellington have the first of their daily vigils outside the NZ parliament, the US and German Embassies and the British High Commission.

~ Peace Movement Aotearoa, Magdalena Aotearoa and women from the International Women's Performance Festival organise a vigil at the Cenotaph (the national war memorial outside parliament buildings).
