This will help the Ministry advise Parliament and the Government about how New Zealanders feel on such matters. The Government had requested the Ministry to prepare the paper because work done in recent years in assessing the consistency between the Human Rights Act 1993 and other legislation had revealed a number of situations in which various laws treated same-sex couples differently from opposite-sex couples. The discussion paper and a background issues paper may be read on the Ministry of Justice web site. Alternatively, write to the Communications Unit, Ministry of Justice, PO Box 180, Wellington for a hardcopy of the Discussion paper. Submissions may be made in writing to the Deputy Secretary, Public Law Group, Ministry of Justice, PO Box 180, Wellington, or the online facility provided in the web site may be used for submissions. The deadline for receipt of submissions is 31 March 2000. For more information, see http://www.justice.govt.nz/pubs/reports/1999/same_sex/index.htm
