PO Box 9314, Wellington. Tel (04) 382 8129, fax (04) 382 8173, [email protected]
Issued 12 November 1998
Kia ora,
As the US continues its military buildup in the Gulf area (details of this will be in the national alert, following soon), and the likelihood of an attack on the people of Iraq increases, we have consulted with the various people involved in the Gulf Crisis Committee and a meeting will be held at :
- 1pm on Monday 16th November, PMA offices, first floor, Trades Hall, 126 Vivian Street, Wellington. This will be to discuss further action to protest if and when any attack occurs. The meeting is open to representatives of peace and social justice groups who are opposed to military action against the people of Iraq. Ideally your group should send one or two representatives who will report back to you all after the meeting.
- IF AN ATTACK HAPPENS BEFORE MONDAY - the emergency arrangements are to gather at the Cenotaph at 5pm on the day of any attack, same time / same place while it continues.
- A reminder, also on Monday, of the ISMAG (Iraq Sanctions Medical Alert Group) public forum :
"Are sanctions a weapon of mass destruction?" public forum with MPs Wayne Mapp , Matt Robson , Graham Kelly and Brian Donnelly. Chair: Terence O'Brien (Director, Centre for Strategic Studies, Victoria University)
from 6pm to 8 pm, at the Health Services Research Centre, 2nd floor, Computerland Building, 154 Featherston Street, Wellington.
Admission: koha for UNICEF/ISMAG appeal for humanitarian relief for the people of Iraq. The work of UNICEF in Iraq will be discussed by Jeff Brown, Director, UNICEF (NZ).
